The Brewery Project presents “Smack,” an exhibition of contemporary work organized by Robert Wedemeyer.
Opening near Valentine’s Day
This show is called Smack! and works will address Valentine’s Day theme. Smack is a slang term for “Kiss” as “Smack on the lips” which, being a Valentine’s Day themed show, is the implied definition for the show’s title. Smack can also refer to a “Hit” or a kind of “Slap” as being “Smacked in the head.”
It also could imply a bright and perhaps cartoonish use of imagery which “Smacks” you visually.
“Smack” is also of course a slang term for “Heroin” which, like love, can be an extremely addictive substance.
I'm sure that there are a few other associations, but I think these are the main ones.
Most of the works in the show will embrace some of the darker and more complex aspects of love but it’s not necessarily a requirement.
